We at BillerudKorsnäs are proud of how much progress we have made in our sustainability work, but we still assume that there is potential for improvement. That is why our sustainability report is such a good tool for simultaneously mapping, assessing and powering our sustainability work. We produce a sustainability report so that others can see what we are striving to achieve – and how well we are doing – and to allow ourselves to determine how we can best develop and become even more sustainable and profitable.
BillerudKorsnäs’ Sustainability Report is combined with its Annual Report and Annual Review to form the company’s comprehensive reporting for 2015. This year’s sustainability report is the third such report BillerudKorsnäs has prepared, and therefore builds on data from three comparable years. We have chosen to follow GRI G4 in line with the ‘In-accordance’ criteria at ‘Core’ level. This means that with the support of our stakeholders, we have selected those parts of the GRI system that are ‘core components’, i.e. the most important aspects. The report is externally reviewed.
The Board and Senior Management Team of BillerudKorsnäs are responsible for the ongoing work in the fields of the environment, occupational health and safety, quality, CSR and sustainable development, and for preparing and presenting the sustainability report in accordance with applicable criteria.
In our 2015 sustainability report, we present follow-up on three years of work with our sustainability targets. To ensure that our targets genuinely contribute to preventing the global temperature from rising by more than two degrees, we have also signed up for the Science Based Targets initiative, which is backed by CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and the WWF. This means that our targets are also audited by external parties to ensure they live up to what is required according to research in the field.
In 2016, we will be checking our sustainability targets to make sure they are sufficiently ambitious and align with our three focus areas for sustainability: responsible value chain, improved customer value, and sustainable, bio-based society. We will also be examining how the targets can be adapted to suit the UN’s 17 targets for sustainable development in the world.
As a part of our sustainability work, we make sure to collect views from the community on an ongoing basis, and maintain regular dialogues with stakeholders. BillerudKorsnäs’ key stakeholders are investors, customers, suppliers, employees and society in general. Our previously completed materiality analysis was updated in 2015, which involved supplementing our report with new indicators.
BillerudKorsnäs is assessed continuously by numerous customers and analysts through surveys about performance and work methods. This is fully in line with our ambition to provide stakeholders with a solid basis for their evaluation of our business. Click herer to read more about the external reviews.
