In 2019, as discussions around the impact of the Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) gained momentum, Billerud participated in workshops organized by Cepi. It became evident that addressing the challenges of sustainable packaging required a collaborative platform. Thus, 4evergreen was born—an alliance with a clear goal: to increase the recycling rate of fiber-based packaging to 90% by 2030.

The Quinnesec mill has been re-certified as an Occupational Safety and Health Administration Star facility under the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP), a status that has been held by the mill since 2001.

The Swedish forestry industry joins forces in a unique project to be able to conduct a more gentle forestry. Billerud, Komatsu Forest and the entire forestry industry are jointly investigating the possibility of developing a machine that, with low ground pressure, provides less ground impact in the forest and better operator comfort. The machine should also provide increased productivity and a more even flow of wood to the industry seen over the year. The project has been named Centipede.

"The Forest in the School" has worked for 50 years to ensure that children and young people have a relationship with the forest. Right now, the association's work is more important than ever. The forest can create faith in the future through its role in sustainable development, and Billerud has been one of the companies behind the initiative since its inception, something we are proud of.

This year, Billerud placed itself in the top tier, and received the award "Best climber" in the Webranking report by Comprend. We have climbed from twenty-third to fifth place, and we are the Swedish company that has improved its score the most since last year, by 16.1 points.

We are proud to announce that, for the seventh year in a row, we have been designated as one of Sweden’s most attractive employers, according to the Young Professional Attraction Index (YPAI) in 2023. Billerud also ranks highest among our industry peers in the forestry and paper segment, in this survey.

In September 2023, Frövi mills new recovery boiler - SP4 - was inaugurated. Hard work is behind the construction of the facility that is now in place and that meets both environmental and quality requirements. But not only that, it was also carried out on time and within budget.

Recently, Billerud has received two high rankings in sustainability measurements – EcoVadis and ESG100.

Every year, Career Company (Karriärföretagen) lists the approximately 200 companies that offer the best career and development opportunities to young talents. Billerud was already awarded this recognition earlier this year and is now also proud to be ranked in the top 10 among Sweden's most attractive employers for university and engineering students.
